Deux bouts

Since its creation in March 2020, Deux Bouts has been busy. This association, which focuses on disadvantaged households, has set up an agroforestry market-gardening farm: the “Ferme Deux Bouts”, located on the banks of the Dordogne in Vayres and certified “organic”.

An ambition for organic market gardening

A genuine agroforestry market gardening workshop, the farm grows over 20 varieties of vegetables in 2,000 m² of greenhouses and open fields. And 200 endemic fruit trees will be planted in 2021. The commitment to organic production is total. Soil-based market gardening is favored to enhance the soil's natural fertility by limiting tillage and adding organic matter. To achieve this, the association uses carbon-based fertilizers, permanent mulching and green manures (horsetail, comfrey, etc.) to restore and maintain a living soil while saving water.

The produce is then distributed via 3 channels: direct sales to the inhabitants of Vayres and the surrounding area, at the farm in the association's store, and sales of baskets to companies and the catering trade.

A powerful lever for integration

Under the responsibility of a technical supervisor, 15 employees on integration schemes work and train in market gardening on living soil and arboriculture. They follow the crops from sowing to harvesting, from packaging to sales. At the same time, they receive support in determining their career plans

Deux Bouts will be equipping itself with a cold room and a vegetable washing and storage station to accommodate more employees on integration schemes. In addition to the support of the Veolia Foundation, the association benefits from the backing of Veolia Recyclage et Valorisation des Déchets (RVD), a regional branch of Veolia, which, among other things, provides agricultural space, including a greenhouse that uses the company's waste heat.
