One Health Institute for Africa (Inoha), University of Kinshasa
The “One Sustainable Health” (OSH) approach places global health at the heart of the debate. This multi-disciplinary, cross-disciplinary approach aims to understand human health by combining exogenous factors. Supported in France by the Fondation Une Santé durable pour tous, it has led to the creation of the Institut One Health pour l'Afrique (Inhao) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This joint research and training structure is attached to the University of Kinshasa. It is an offshoot of the former Unité de recherche et de formation sur l'écologie et le contrôle des maladies infectieuses (URF-ECMI), which later became the Service d'écologie et de contrôle des maladies infectieuses.
Inaho's research activities focus on two main areas:
- Contributing to understanding the functioning of different socio-ecological complexes and their interactions, as well as their respective roles in the emergence, spread and persistence of disease phenomena;
- Contribute to the retrospective analysis and prospective evaluation of governance models for disease phenomena.
On the training side, Inoha will focus on infectious disease management, providing public decision-makers with structured information and data.
The overall aim is to enable a better response to emerging and re-emerging infectious disease epidemics. Support from the Veolia Foundation will enable the purchase of equipment and the holding of initial workshops.
