The award ceremony took place at the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development, where Dr. Mayaki participated in the formal adoption of a partnership agreement between Japan and the African Union.
This recent award is one of many Dr. Mayaki has received over a long career of public service promoting economic and social development activities among African countries. In 2017, Dr. Mayaki was bestowed the “Water Prize” by His Serene Highness, Prince Albert II of the Principality of Monaco in recognition of his leadership of the Global Alliance Against Cholera and its promotion of cholera abatement activities in sub-Saharan countries, most notably in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

2004: becomes Executive Director of the Platform for Rural Development Support in West Africa (Le Hub Rural), Senegal.
2009: appointed Executive Secretary of NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa's Development), a development programme funded by the African Union.
2010: appointed President of the Global Alliance Against Cholera (Gaac).
