On November 22, 2023, ten new water kiosks were inaugurated in Cambodia, in the presence of the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Economy. Behind this new access to drinking water: 1001 Fontaines.
The NGO Teuksaat1001, a local entity of 1001Fontaines, worked for many months with technical partners Tergys SAS and GreenCityzen, and with the support of Veolia and the Veolia Foundation. The aim: to bring out a new generation of water kiosks. The first version of these autonomous drinking water production stations combining UV filtration and solar energy have been installed for some twenty years in rural villages in Cambodia. With its 260 units, 1001 Fontaines estimates that it supplies water to almost 800,000 people.
The next step, which took place on November 22, 2023, was to decarbonize the entire potabilization chain and maintenance processes. The gamble paid off: ten new-generation kiosks were inaugurated. These autonomous decentralized water production units (100% renewable energy), equipped with digital remote monitoring tools, can provide access to drinking water for 100,000 people.
The development was carried out with the support of the French Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Economic Recovery under the Fasep program (Fonds d'études et d'aide au secteur privé pour financer des études de faisabilité ou la démonstration de technologies vertes et innovantes). Veolia and the Veolia Foundation were also involved in the project. The inauguration was attended by representatives of the Cambodian Ministry of the Economy, Veolia, Tergys SAS, GreenCityzen and the Veolia Foundation.
